Swedish! : Light, Shape. Landscape

Ingalill Snitt is an opinionated photographer. With her very own way of seeing and choosing motifs, she and Marita Jonsson have traveled in Sweden in search of the Swedish soul. Is it in our love for nature? In our sense of form and design? In our architecture? The answer is not clear-cut, but the pictures speak of a longing for endless snow-covered expanses, polished rocks in the sea, stripped-down facades and clean, simple forms of the mills.Ingalill Snitt's pictures capture how the changes of the landscape and the seasons affect our lifestyle, Marita Jonsson's texts explain. All modern form and design has its roots in history. We find them in Tanum's petroglyphs, in medieval churches such as Ulvöns, in the graying large-vulned Hälsingegårds, in the cozy Rococo interiors and in the austere Gustavian ones.A large section shows how these roots are reflected in ultra-modern homes and objets d'art by our most famous designers and architects.The first chapter, Living in Sweden, shows the changes of the seasons in generous image sweeps. The section Four building blocks, about stone, wood, water and light, circles the ingredients that most clearly influenced the architecture and interior design. In Historical roots the background to our design language is drawn, and in Lifestyle we enter the homes of today's architects and designers.
