August 9, 1959: Duke Ellington and His Orchestra play an awesome three-set engagement at Chicago's Blue Note, and fortunately for the world, almost the entire thing is recorded. Highly recommended; it's a great chance to hear basically an entire night's performance from start to finish with the band at its best. Near the top of the show, the band played four pieces from Duke's score for 'Anatomy of a Murder,' first recorded two months prior. Here's Johnny Hodges on "Flirtibird"--compare it to the studio version on this channel.
