The noble Definis family came to Sutivan on Brac in 1750 from Giovinazzo near Bari, seven generations of them were doctors and priests, Dr. Tommaso Andrea Definis founded the forerunner of social insurance.
Dr. Vicko Definis graduated from medicine in 1837 in Padua and was among the first in Dalmatia to perform cataract surgery.
The Definis Palace with the family coat of arms above the entrance door, one of the three noble complexes of connected buildings, is the largest and speaks of the wealth of this family and the large economy that they owned and maintained. In what used to be Biedermeier's interior, there was a rich medical library from the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as five miniature portraits of the Trieste painter Vicent Poiret (1813-1868).
Definis Dvor is now part of the Lemogarden Hotel owned by the Austrian company Strabag. . . last picture!
Definis stone house from 1916 with a garden of 43 ha was sold in 2005 to the Maribor Archdiocese...now owned by Eagle Hills Zagreb!
