The film is based on one of the chapters from Fazil Iskander's epic "Sandro from the Village of Chegem". It tells a story about a feast given for Josef Stalin and his closest advisors in which Sandro performed as a soloist from an Abkhazian ensemble. After work (nothing unusual for the artist), he returns home and the repression begins soon after - artists who attended the feast begin disappearing... This is a remarkable movie about Stalinism. What makes it so interesting is that the movie described the everyday events in 1930's Russia and was able to show the depth to which totalitarianism had become part of everyday existence.
