The folks at Kenwood let out a resounding "happy 25th birthday to us" with the XXV-01D in-dash CD player. A blend of striking looks and great performance, it offers a beautiful, motorized display, comprehensive sound features, and lots of useful extras.

The display will brighten up any dash, with its entertaining 3-dimensional animations and excellent resolution. It's easy to see in all kinds of light, which means you can read its information with just a glance. You can also customize the display with your own images, for that personal touch.

Digital music is all the rage, and this stereo will play all of the files you have on disc: MP3s, WMAs, and even the AAC files you've ripped from CDs. For added convenience, Kenwood included its AC Drive software for encoding your MP3s and WMAs on your computer. As you play your files on the XXV-01D, a voice announces the name of the song and artist over your car's speakers. You can find your favorite tracks without taking your eyes off the road.

Sophisticated tone controls let you tailor the sonics to your vehicle. The highlight: SRS® WOW, which offers three settings to bring out the bass in your music and create a convincing, three-dimensional musical image. The stereo also features Installer Memory, which lets you restore your audio settings in an instant, should they get changed, or your battery get disconnected.

The Graphic Motion Analyzer spices up your drive by displaying performance specifications, such as the force your car generates during turns and acceleration, with no special wiring required. The analyzer's graphics look especially spectacular on the high-resolution display.

This stereo also allows for plenty of system expansion. With optional tuners, you can enjoy SIRIUS Satellite Radio or HD Radio. Three sets of preamp outputs send the cleanest signal possible to your external amplifiers for more pure power and the added performance of a subwoofer. You'll find an extra input for connecting another audio source. And you can control your iPod® directly with the XXV-01D, using Kenwood's iPod adapter.
